I am a mother of 5 year old triplets. I have been involved with the parade since 2007. I was a General Parade Marshall, then moved up to being in charge of the Cars and Dignitaries where I worked with the Model A and Model T’s and all the officials who wanted to ride in the parade in a Model T and Model A. From there I became Parade Director and I am currently a Trustee and Secretary of the Evanston Fourth of July Association. I am also a National Board Certified Special Education Teacher in Chicago Public Schools.
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED?
I got involved when I moved back to Evanston from Cincinnati, Ohio. I grew up watching the parade with my family and my brothers Dan and Ed were Parade Marshalls for many years. The first year I came home and watched the parade with my parents. The next year I asked my brothers how to be a part of the parade. I became a parade Marshall that year.
WHY DO YOU STAY INVOLVED?
I had to take a step back from being the Parade Director after my daughters were born, but wanted to stay involved which is why I became Secretary . I love the parade and how happy people are on Parade Day. I love the excitement and celebrating out country. I stay involve because I love being part of the community, I love getting to know the many people who are involved either with the creation of the parade, parade participant, spectators and the local businesses.
WHY SHOULD OTHERS GET INVOLVED?
I think others should be involved because it’s a lot of fun, helps you get to know the people in your community, and shows your support for Evanston and its citizens.
